Indian Institute of Management Jammu harmonized the 4th edition of the HR Conclave of the Institute on 4 September 2021, which resonates with the Institute’s vision to develop leaders and entrepreneurs who can perform globally to make a valuable difference to society in the Corporate World.

Carrying forward the legacy of the immediate edition, the HR Conclave 4.0 is conceptualized around the theme’ Dare to Disrupt’. The Conclave witnessed well-known stalwarts and visionaries across the corporate fraternity, and ingenious expertise was shared on the virtual

platform. The event commenced with Mr. Rajni Ranjan (Placement Officer, IIM Jammu) welcoming and introducing the esteemed panelists. Prof. Jabir Ali (Chairperson, Placements, IIM Jammu) presented the Institute and the batch profiles of the students, exhibiting the changing dynamics and diversity across the batches and the growth journey of the Institute over the period of five years.

The theme for the firstpanel discussion was ‘Understanding Generation Z in the workplace’. Mr. Hitesh Khurana, Head – Talent Acquisition & Talent Management, CASIO, moderated the conversation and it was later presided over by- Mr. Rohit Sharma, Head – HR Services, Bayer; Ms. VipraBabbar, Head HR & Recruitment, Meero; Mr. Anurag Sahay, HR Head, Nestle Goa Unit, Mr. Venkatesh Neelam, Deputy Manager HR, Volvo Group; Mr. Sudhir Dhar, PCC, Executive Director – Group CHRO, Motilal Oswal Financial Services; Mr. Vishal Thakur, Vice President- Human Resources, Tata Capital; Mr. Amit Verma, HR Head, NVIDIA.

The panel talked about the challenging traditional status at the workplace while iterating that ‘how’ to do something is more important than ‘why’ for generation Z. They mentioned that generation Z is changing the status quo, and it is all about how the industry is going adjust to the change. They also talked about the thought process of generation Z in terms of time optimization.

The students of IIM Jammu showed great interest during the panel discussion, followed by a highly interactive Q&A session between the panelists and students. Prof. B. S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, concluded the first session by appreciating the panelists for gracing the occasion. He highlighted the importance of HR in today’s scenario and the risk-taking capabilities of generation Z. He presumes all his students get the opportunities to be mentored by the industry stalwarts, helping them enhance their learning arc.

The secondpanel discussion revolved around ‘Gig Economy: Building a Robust Workforce with Inclusive HR Frameworks in the second panel’. Mr. Pradipta Sahoo, Advisor to the Board, Bank of India, moderated the session and was presided over by- Mr. Arun Kumar T., Director – HR Transformations, APAC, Sodexo; Ms. Konika Chadha, Head of Professional Search – India, Korn Ferry; Dr. Natwar Kadel, Head – Centre of Expertise People Strategy, Hyundai Motor India Ltd.; Dr. Shashi Kant, Associate Director (HR) | ER-IR North, Flipkart; Mr. Shubham Tripathi, Sr. Human Resources Manager, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited, Mr. Sanjay Kumar Verma, Sr. Vice President HR, Johnson Controls Hitachi India Ltd.

The discussion started off with the panelists highlighting the importance of the gig economy and its impact on both blue and white-collar professions. They mentioned how companies have adjusted to it and have started treating gig workers as an internal part of the organization. Gigs have revolutionized the way we work, and it provides autonomy, flexibility, and job satisfaction. The panelists took the discussion towards the end while stressing the importance of knowing

where gig workers suitably fit in an organization. The conference was followed by a Q&A session where students raised questions before the panel, and the panelists also made it more exciting by rewarding the best questions.
