For the first time since inception, the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow held an Online Convocation (in view of the current pandemic situation in India).

The 35th Annual Convocation of IIM Lucknow saw 646 students being awarded their degrees by the Chairman, IIM Lucknow Board of Governors, Mr. N Chandrasekaran and Director, IIM Lucknow, Prof. Archana Shukla. Dr. Janmejaya Sinha, Chairman, India, Boston Consulting Group was the Chief Guest on the occasion and delivered the Convocation Address.

404 students from the 35th batch of Post Graduate Programme in Management, 74 students from the 16th batch of Post Graduate Programme in Agri-business Management, 19 students from the Doctoral Programme (FPM) along with 103 students from International Programme in Management for Executives (IPMX), 29 students from Post Graduate Programme in Sustainable Management and 17 students from Executive Fellow Programme in Management (EFPM) received the degrees.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Archana Shukla, Director, IIM Lucknow highlighted the accomplishments of students, alumni and faculty of the institute in the academic year 2020-2021. Prof Shukla informed that this year the institute achieved a massive digital transformation. IIM Lucknow also worked in close coordination with the Chairperson, Board of Governors, Board Members, Senior Alumni and Faculty to discuss, debate and adopt a Perspective Plan and Vision – 2030 document. The perspective plan and Vision document has drawn clearly defined goalposts on Programme Consolidation, Technological upgradation, Collaboration and Alumni Involvement, Focus on Entrepreneurship and hybrid management development programs. Prof Shukla also informed that establishment of Centre for Public Policy has been one of the proud developments for the IIM Lucknow last year. The centre with its various activities- advisory, training, stakeholder dialogues and research will strive towards a high degree of impact on public policy and society. She said that she envisions this centre of excellence to be one of the best in the country. She further said that the impactful and meaningful activities through the centre has resulted in several key contributions, including intervention during the current Covid Pandemic. She advised students that Digital transformation should be coupled with human transformation for being most effective.

Mr. N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, BoG, IIM Lucknow, spoke about the challenges the pandemic has thrown and how together all have to work together to start afresh, He said that not everything is dark and bleak in this pandemic, there are some positives too – a) the much needed push to digital was given (b) sustainability is now at core and everyone together would work for more sustainable opportunities (c) importance of public safety has finally been recognised and everyone will work towards betterment of the same. The positives will create new job opportunities and open new avenues. He asked the graduating students to embrace the future with confidence.

Dr. Janmejaya Sinha, Chief guest, said that he would just like to share 6 lessons he learnt from six of his mentors which have guided him and he is sure they will guide the graduating students in their future life. One of his mentors Late Mr. Satynand Bagai, Ex Executive Director RBI had told him that one should learn how to pay real genuine compliment to someone. It is a difficult task, one needs to observe the person closely and find something praiseworthy in the person and then compliment directly, and not only compliment once but persist and repeat. This simple act would lead to a permanent space in the heart of other.
