Facebook is a platform wherein people from various backgrounds can connect and share their experiences. It has come a long way from being a portal for youngsters to share their photos and get maximum likes. It has become an information sharing hub. As per the latest stats Facebook has contributed over 200 billion to the world economy and has also created many jobs. Indians have over 100 million accounts on Facebook which not only includes common man but also politicians,actors,sportsmen etc. Our culture has been affected significantly by Facebook. It was an important tool used by the BJP during their election campaigning period. Mr. Modi is an active user on Facebook and uses it to shares his thoughts. It has brought people close to their government. Moreover it has also become a platform to share the atrocities and the problems faced by a common man. The movement started by Anna Hazare gained its momentum via Facebook. Recently the McDonald’s case in Pune was a highlight and the its immediate effect was the shutting down of the outlet and investigation. Furthermore the Digital India Initiative started by our PM can become a huge success if Facebook lends a helping hand. Mark Zuckerburg during his meeting with India praised the scheme of digital India. If the technology is used properly Facebook can connect the villages with the cities which would in turn foster development of the rural people. I would like to conclude by stating that Facebook is not destroying our culture instead it is re-shaping it and influencing the world.
