XIM Bhubaneswar conducted the Finance Conclave: FINOMICS 2022, hosted by X-FIN – The Finance Association of XIM. This year’s theme was “ESG: Ratings, Valuation & Investing.”
The event was hosted on 19th November 2022 and was graced with the presence of Mr. Rahul Agarwal, Head of ESG Research Services, CRISIL GR & RS; Mr. Debasis Panigrahi, Founder of Mridayaa Ventures LLP; Mr. Gokul Pandian, Director of ESG, EY Limited, and Mr. Debraj Datta, Associate Director, ESG, Grant Thornton Bharat LLP, who shared their valuable insights with the audience.
The session commenced with the speakers lighting the lamp, followed by an introduction by one of our esteemed faculties, Dr. Asit Ranjan Mohanty, Professor of Finance. Professor Debasish Mahapatro, the day’s moderator, presented the topic, ” ESG: Ratings, Valuation & Investing.”
The first speaker of the day, Mr. Rahul Agarwal, Head of ESG Research Services, CRISIL GR & RS, shared insights on ratings. He emphasized the factors that are considered when ratings are made.
The day’s second speaker was Mr. Gokul Pandian, Director of ESG, EY Limited. He signified the need for sustainability and compliance with policies. Mr. Pandian also mentioned, “There is a lot of high deliberation happening around ESG. We need to do a global institutional survey every year and do this for environment ministers. Most of the inventors are looking at the company’s non-financial performance.”
The session was further continued by the third speaker of the day, Mr. Debasis Panigrahi, Founder of Mridayaa Ventures LLP. He stated his opinion on how vital role E (environment) and S (social) play in ESG, apart from G (governance). He put forward the point, “It’s not about corporate earnings; it’s about quality earnings. It’s not about financial numbers; it’s about how many lives you have touched.”
The final speaker of the conclave was Mr. Debraj Datta, Associate Director, ESG, Grant Thornton Bharat LLP. He added, “Sustainable investing is not just investing with a conscience but long-term profitable investment strategy.”
After the talk by the eminent speakers was the much-awaited question and answer session where the bright minds of XIM, University asked questions relevant to the finance world.
The summit concluded with a vote of thanks from Sandhya Pandey, the X-Fin treasurer.
