Everyday someone out there is coming up with new ideas and new inventions and taking the world by storm, disrupting the existing system- becoming overnight success stories, legends in their respective fields!
So why can’t we do something like that? What’s that one thing that is stopping us? If we consider the diligent populace of our society especially our Indian society-There are many people who work hard, put in as much effort in their jobs. These multitude of assiduous men and women, working day in and day out are as dedicated as any other successful personality-then why don’t they have a great career?- why aren’t they success stories?
In India, the education system is often blamed, especially by us students, for being flawed at the most rudimentary level, lacking pragmatism, corrupted by politicians etc. But as humans, we love indulging ourselves in blaming others and coming up with excuses and in between forget to scrutinise our own flaws.
For instance, one of the most prevailing trend in our society is to mindlessly follow what everyone else is doing provided they are successful at it.
At the age of 25, Albert Einstein had already done some ground breaking research and published papers all of which were worthy of a Nobel. Elon Musk started his first company at the age of about 24, Steven P. Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg had already set up their companies by the age of 25.
While at the same age, we are busy preparing for all known entrance examinations and trying our luck- having absolutely no clue about what to do next!
The crux of the matter is that we fail to comprehend the most obvious reason: that these so called successful people are successful in the first place because their motivation was not to follow someone, but because they pursued their own dreams!
But we wouldn’t understand that – because we don’t even have the faintest idea about our interests let alone realizing about our passions and desires which we truly want to pursue.
Perhaps some of us, maybe were even aware of it when we were about 5 years old, but now it has faded away, after those sleepless nights spent cramming up unnecessary facts over the years like an asinine lunatic, not because we wanted to, but we had to – for the examination the next day!
Now when push came to shove, while deciding our career, we blatantly chose to follow ‘safe-road’ because most of the people seem to be doing fine while traversing down this path.
Or, since we had no idea about our passion or what we truly wanted to do in our life – the best option was to follow “Mommy and Daddy’s” advice- what they thought would be best for us!
Hence finally we become old working like a maniac- like a programmed robot. Although we work so hard like a diligent herd of slaves, we are obviously unhappy, forced to do a job we don’t want to and finally after an unsatisfying, mediocre life, we die – die full of our talents, skills and contemplating on our deathbed about the alternate timeline where the ‘other-me’ was bold enough to pursue his own dreams, even if it did not pay!
Thus we won’t have a good future ahead of us because ‘good ‘simply translates into average or mediocre. There is either a great future which we can build for ourselves or we can remain average for the rest of our lives.

The Discount effect !
Sounds a lot like the axe effect doesn’t it???
