Sid WaliaParticipant2014 has seen a massive change in the perception of India, by not only the citizens of India, but also by the whole world.
The new govt. managed to secure a clear mandate of people in the recent general elections and hence is in a very comfortable position to formulate policies and make decisions that will help India become a superpower.
This opportunity is unprecedented, considering the recent past, as is being seen by the positive outlook shown by number of foreign investors including IKEA, SoftBank and a vigorous energy of business activity shown across sectors of Indian Industry including the deals of Kotak Mahindra-ING Vyasya and Sun Pharmaceutical-Ranbaxy deals.
If the intent and will shown by the new govt. gets materialized and delivers the results then surely India could rise in the world hierarchy, and the dream of becoming a Superpower would be realized soon enough.
I perceive 4 major points which can help India become a superpower by as early as 2020:
– Good and consistent economic growth
Encouragement and protection needs to be given to the Indian companies and the Domestic Market. Conglomerates like Tata Sons,Aditya Birla Group,Mahindra & Mahindra and IT Majors such as Infosys, Wipro, TCS and also other significant players need to be encouraged to foray into new sectors like Defense production etc. so that Indian businesses are comfortable in competing with global giants. Examples for this are Chinese companies like Huawei, Gionee, Alibaba who have become major players across Asia and the world.Foreign Direct Investment and Foreign Institutional Investment need to be encouraged, but quality and compliance also needs to be adhered to.
A healthy business environment needs to be provided to all businesses, which includes good basic infrastructure, single-window approvals from various govt. agencies to start a business, incentives to businesses in the form of subsidies,or tax holidays for some time.
Make in India is an initiative in the right direction by the central govt., giving push to the manufacturing sector in India.
This will help India counter China, when it comes to manufacturing.
– Ensuring Internal and External Security
No country in the present day and age can boast to become a superpower without having a good and concrete defense and foreign policy. The appointment of Manohar Parikar, as the Defense Minister is one more step taken by the govt. in the right direction. He has strong credentials as a firm and able administrator, being one of the best CMs of Goa. Also the push given to infrastructure development across the borders with Pakistan and China, will help India secure its borders, and also win the hearts of people living in those areas.
A very important measure also is strengthening internal security by making necessary changes to our legal system and stringent application of laws.– Education and Technology boost
This century is the century of knowledge. Countries that have a large pool of intellectual people and professionals will be ranked high in world hierarchy. India has a large number of engineers, doctors, architects, and scientists who have shown their mettle not only in the country but on the world stage. This intellectual power surely will help as a catalyst for India to become a superpower by as early as 2020.– End to corruption
Almost all developed countries including those in northern Europe and North America have very less, if not zero corruption. India should have an overhauling of the various systems in place in various sectors, to ensure there is no corruption or red-tapeWith this definitely India can become a Superpower by 2020.
India has the world’s largest population of youth numbering above 350 million. Also majority of them are English-speaking which pivots India to become a Superpower and a force to reckon with by 2020.
