KeymasterThe Indian sports ministry has hired you and your team of consultants to prepare a draft plan in popularizing women’s soccer in the country. The ministry wants you to create a proper 10 year proposal on how soccer can be made more popular and India can hope to qualify for the 2030 World Cup. It is also looking for suggestions in terms of governing the sports body for soccer in the country. Can you help ?

ParticipantSince we have a span of 10 years, first and foremost thing that my team and I would do is that at each and every level of the sports governing body or the ministry educate them that how important it is for the country and for the team to qualify and finally win the trophy. If at all anybody has a thought that since it’s a women’s soccer team and not men’s so proper attention should not be given, this thought should be removed at this stage only.
Moving further I would want that in each and every corner of the country if any women who has a interest in playing soccer and is playing at School/College/district/state level should be called forward and approached for the national team. Also, at this stage any restriction or hesitation if any women’s family has should be cleared and they should be comfortable and proud of there girl.
A proper coach and all training equipments should be arranged for the team and proper guidance should start along with proper diet and other necessary things.
On the other hand throughout the country gradually citizens of the country should be made aware about soccer. Like in our country cricket players are given options in glamour world like advertisements, chat shows etc. and with proper makeover, same should be done with the women soccer team so that people gain interest and start knowing the players which will automatically push them to watch soccer matches and thus getting popular.

ParticipantThe very first thing we could do in popularizing women soccer is making it a compulsory sport in school and training girls and then sending girls for competition starting from school to interschoool competition and then to district, state level. This will also help in reducing inequality . Trainers should motivate them by giving them an example of US women team ,that US women team won more medals than men in olympics. Not only in rural areas, they should also focus on urban areas .We can conduct a seminar where women athletes like PT usha,PV sindhu motivate girls to participate more and contribute to country. They can create a huge impact on girls, mentors, families etc.
secondly, we need more films like chak de india and dangal that focus on women in sports.promotion can also be done through advertisements.Like for cricket we have play grounds to practice professionally, the same should be made for soccer .Proper equipments ,coaching and all those things that would make women ready to compete at antional level should be provided.
Our main aim is to change the mind set of families in urban india .As even now there are many areas where they consider women are just born to wash utensils and do all housework. Now since women have proved a lot of times they are no less than a men ,equal opportunity should be given to both men and women

ParticipantWe would need to work in 3 tiers
Tier 1 Giving high incentives to schools and colleges to introduce/ develop further the game and encourage girls from small classes to take it up.
Tier 2 Popularising the game among the youth. For this we would need to work with holding small competions with decent prizes in schools and colleges. Then we needn to rope in TV stars and movie stars alike and hold competitions, also we need to focus on advertising about the game on TV and social media sites like twitter, facebook, instagram. Also we can develop mobile soccer games to increase craze among kids. Asking our Female olymic medalists or popular female players of other games to advertise would be a good idea
Tier 3 Concentating on team of 2023
We need to develop rigorous selection procedure and hier eminent coaches from outside India to concentrate on training and building of a competent Indian team ready for 2023. Equipping the team with necessary requirements and developing proper playing fields is to be looked at in this tier.
Regarding governing of the sports body, people with technical know how of the sport and difficulties faced by the players and people alike, with ample experience need to be hired, should be kept away from political holdh
