On 1st August 2016, the Symbiosis Bengaluru Campus came together to celebrate the 81st birthday of Dr. S.B. Mujumdar – Founder of Symbiosis International University. On this auspicious occasion, the Social Responsibility Committee of SIBM Bengaluru and Soul Sparsh, the Official CSR club of SSMC Bengaluru organized a Blood Donation Camp in association with Blossom Hospital and Symbiosis Centre for Health Care (SCHC).
Every year, India requires 40 million units of 250cc blood out of which only a meagre 500,000 are available.
Keeping this in mind, Symbiosis Bengaluru hosted a successful Blood Donation Drive spanning an entire day from 9am to 7pm in the campus. The event saw more than 175 registrations and a final collection of 165 units amounting to 69,300 ml of donated blood. Donors from several companies and colleges across the city joined hands and contributed to this noble cause.
Jzaa, the dramatics club of SIBM Bengaluru, performed a Nukkad Natak, which instilled a touching message: “Blood cannot be created, it can only be donated”. This played an instrumental role in breaking many myths regarding the cause and further mesmerized the audience with their performance.
Aparna Bansal, a second year student of SIBM Bengaluru said, “It feels great to have donated for the first time. It’s overwhelming to know how unknowingly your blood will help someone struggling for their life”.
The Coordinator of the Social Responsibility Committee said, “We received an impressive turnout this year. The entire college actively participated, including the faculty members, students and the staff from both the institutes. This drive was a small step by the Symbiosis family to give a part of their life to someone else in need. It is great to see people take time out of their busy schedules and contribute to this cause”.
The organizers thank the voluntary blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood and to raise awareness of the need for regular blood donations to ensure quality, safety and availability of blood and blood products for patients in need and We extend our gratitude to all the crew of Blossom Hospital for their invaluable assistance.
