‘AVENIR’, The Business Conclave of Department of Management Studies, IITRoorkee began with great excitement and zeal on 22nd Aug,2015. The theme of AVENIR was ‘Understanding the trends and needs of the emerging global Business Landscape’. Dr. Santosh Rangnekar- Head of Department of Management Studies, IIT Roorkee,addressed the students and opened the two days business conclave- AVENIR’15.The two day event was inaugurated by Dr. D.K.Nauriyal( Dean, student welfare IIT Roorkee). The conclave began with lighting of lamp & pious hymn of the kulgeet. Experts from industry were invited to bestow their valuable knowledge with students and to bridge the gap between theoretical and practical knowledge.
The opening speaker of the AVENIR’15 was Mr Alvis Lazarus (young e-commerce, supply chain, social entrepreneur & leanand six sigma MBB champion). Mr Alvis Lazarus provided deep insights on e-commerce, FMCG and automobile sector. Insights about B2B & B2C models were discussed in the session. First session was followed by Mr Saif Iqbal( Head of Innovations Snapdeal, and alumnus of IITR). Mr Saif Iqbal explained the true essence of innovations and self-destructive model of business. A short case study on innovation was also discussed with students. Moving on,Mr Gaurav Mehta(CMO,OLX India)shared his knowledge about marketing and changing marketing scenario. Mr Mehta also briefed about the decline of Yahoo and probable causes for the same.
Post lunch the dais was graced by Mr Ankur Jain( Director of training, Development and Quality, Policybazar.com) who discussed about Uberification, saving time and money and urbanization. Also he threw light on start-ups and how to create a base for them. The last notable speaker of the day was Dr Deepak Singh who bestowed a thought provoking session in unstructured learning character. Role of personality & flex behaviour were the key elements of discussion. A brief on VUCA (Volatile, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity) was also delivered.
Enlightment in 2nd day of AVENIR’15 began with gracious presence of Ms Sheela Nambiar (Director inside sales, IBM). Miss. Nambiar compared the sales role in today’s environment to that of 20years ago. Light was thrown on roles and opportunities for modern Indian womenin sales. The changes in data, cloud, & engagement were the key concepts of the session. After the session, Mr Rajesh Dhuddu( Senior Executive member, M&A) gave deep insights about entrepreneurship &VUCA concepts. Theory of abundance and adverse entrepreneurship were the main focus during the session. Next the session was followed by Mr Sandeep Mathur, (President, New projects Greenply and alumnus of IITR) who holds a vast experience of 34years. Mr Sandeep Mathur discussedGreen technology and new management practices which were extremely beneficial for students.
Mr. Abhay Kapoor( Associate VP, Escorts Ltd) threw light on ‘Build and reinvent organization-global and HR changes. Indepth knowledge on future workplace and workforce was shared in the session. Challenges, threats, opportunity for the budding management graduate were penetrating essence of the session. The two day long business conclave AVENIR’15 commenced with session of entrepreneur and mentor Mr Rajesh Pednekar(Head of distribution, Pfizer). Mr Pednekarprovided in depth information of global scenario and supply chain in pharmaceutical industry. Light was thrown on challenges, future scopes, growth, changing sales model, adversity in India and entrepreneurship pertaining in the industry.
All the sessions were a knowledge treat for the management students and were very interactive. Curiosity and doubts of students regarding the corporate world were answered duringAVENIR’15.AVENIR‘15 presented by THDC India Limited, would not have been such a big success without the help of sponsors Oriental Bank of Commerce, SoulFlower, Central Bank of India, Hotel Center Point, and IdeasMakeMarket.com.
