IIM Bodh Gaya celebrated the 76th Independence Day with enthusiasm and grandeur. In line with ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, which is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of independence and the glorious history of it’s people, culture and achievements, the Institute held many engaging activities that involved students, staff, and faculty members. The celebrations for Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav commenced on the 13th August with intra-college competitions such as chess, debate, and volleyball.

The Indian Tri-Colour symbolises the unity and strength of India along with the struggle that the country has overcome. Promoting the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, which encourages people to bring the Tiranga home, the Institute decorated various spots in the campus with replicas of the national flag. While the Institute building lit up in the tri-colour, the feeling of patriotism could be seen in the eyes of all the students, staff and faculty during the flag march on the bright and sunny 15th August morning.

The celebration of the day began with a welcome address by Prof. Sreelekha Mishra, Chairperson, Students’ Affairs. Dr. Vinita S. Sahay, Director, IIM Bodh Gaya, hoisted the national flag and everyone present sang the national anthem together as is the custom. The Director, in her address, mentioned that the feeling of patriotism instills with time and nurtures only when we show respect and belongingness to our country. Speaking in light of the busy schedule of the students she accentuated, “Health can never be outsourced like money and wealth generation and thus taking good care of one’s health is very important.” She highlighted that the Institute is proud to showcase a large demographic diversity in the new MBA 08 batch. She further added, “The Institute feels that with every incoming batch, we are not only making mindful managers, but also responsible future leaders, whose core values are strongly driven from the roots of their education.”

This was followed by a cultural event where the Cultural committee organized performances by the students from MBA Batches 07 & 08 and IPM Batch 01, with each performance displaying exuberance and leaving the audience awestruck.

A tug-of-war competition was organized for the institute’s house-keeping staff and security, to appreciate the amount of hard work that they put in for the Institute and to include them in the celebration. This was followed by a musical chair competition for the faculty members and staff. A friendly cricket match between students and faculty and staff concluded the celebration.

Prof. Sreelekha Mishra closed the event by extending the vote of thanks to all the participating students who made the event a success. With freedom in our minds, faith in our words, and pride in our hearts, we concluded the event by pledging to uphold the spirit of unity in every possible way and contribute to the nation.
