Xavier Institute of Management, Xavier University, Bhubaneswar on 21st December 2015, hosted the 14th International Conference on Information Technology, which is a premier international forum for sharing high quality research in the areas of Information Technology. The International Conference on Information Technology (ICIT) started in 1998, after a national conference on the topic was held at Bhubaneswar, India in 1997. The conference is organized by the Orissa Information Technology Society (OITS) in collaboration with different institutes. ICIT has been technically co-sponsored by IEEE since 2006.This year, as it happens, Xavier Institute of Management, Xavier University, Bhubaneshwar, played host to it and witnessed yet another grand success.
The event was presided by some prominent personalities. The General Chairs for the event wereProf. Brajendra Panda, University of Arkansas, USA and Prof. Dipak Misra, XIMB-XU, Bhubaneswar and theProgram Chairs wereProf. Mainak Chatterjee, University of Central Florida, USA andProf. Bhawani Sankar Panda, IIT,Delhi. Prof. Sanjay Mohapatra, Organizing chair and faculty member at XIM-XU, Bhubaneswar, Prof. Prafulla K.Behera, organizing chair and faculty member from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, Prof. Rahul Thakurta and Prof. Ajit K Behera, Finance chair, Prof. Bhaskar Basu, Web chair along with other professors and IT stalwartswere the reason for bringing the event together and ensuring its smooth functioning.
The event started off with the Inaugural ceremony that witnessed participation from an eclectic mix of students and professors from leading institutions of the country. Prof. B. S. Misra, Dean(Academics), XIMB, XUB, gave the welcome address followed by the opening address by Prof. B. S. Panda, IIT Delhi. This was followed by an enlightening address by the esteemed chief Guest Mr. Manoj Panda, Centre Head TCS, Bhubaneswar. Mr. Panda spoke about how Information Technology is shaping the world today and his experiences of the same at his workplace.
The three-day event comprised of several Keynote Addresses, some Invited Talks and paper presentations. Out of these presented papers, the best three were conferred with due recommendations from the program committee. Each of these three awards carried cash prize and citations. Amiya K. Pujari Award was given to the Best Paper of the conference. Narayan Misra Award was given to the best paper from Orissa. One student best paper award was awarded from the papers with students as the leading authors. This, in particular, provides students a platform to be recognized for their talents and passion. Prof. Sanjay Mohapatra, the Organizing chair of the event said “A lot of hard work went into making this conference a success. It is backed by IEEE which is the highest ranking agency in Information Systems. Despite the fact that the conference is being organized after a gap of few years, we received an overwhelming response. Out of the 132 papers we received, 61 went on to stage 2, which says a lot about the quality of papers received. Also, the best paper is to be chosen based on a benchmarking process”. The three day conference from 21st December to 23rd December was a powerhouse of ideas in the field of Information Technology. For XIMB, XUB, the conference signifies a milestone in keeping up with the fast-paced world, progressing each day with the help of Information Technology.
